The Caste’s ~Physicians

The Green Caste of Gor, they’re known for healing. For their knowledge about the body and even the brain, they work with equipment way more advanced to our own, and within Gor they’ve actually managed to get rid of most of the illnesses that would plague is on Earth, not to mention… they managed to stop people from aging. So… What’s up with the Physicians Caste of Gor in Second Life then?

The RP

Well… I will divide this up in a few sections. First of all, it’s the RP environment. You’re working in a place where the only time an illness hits it basically will take a whole sim with you. Making that not an option to RP. Where injuries heal up within days. And the culture is so different that some stuff we would find on Earth doesn’t exist or wouldn’t happen in the world of Gor. Some of these are: Rape, miscarriages, death by age.

Ok so then we just avoid those? Wrong, over the past weeks we have had about 3 or 4 come in who still tried to claim rape as a plot point. To which one has to question themselves, how much do you know about the Gorean world? That you didn’t realize the word rape, doesn’t even exist. Nor what penalty stands for the use of a woman, who didn’t manage to prevent it, or didn’t have a protector to help her out in the first place.

Getting them to your Sim

OK this one is about as hard as the warriors. Because you want people who are at least a bit trained, who know what they’re doing. And with patience. Physician RP doesn’t drop every day, it may be days that you don’t have that much to do, and then suddenly you get a wave you can’t cope with. On top of that… the people you get in most of the time. I say most… are those who like to throw titles around, who like to boast about past endeavors and past cities. But when they are called to action… likely stay in their own homes.

People who claim to be teachers, but when called up for it. They do nothing. It’s in interesting bunch, and in a sense more about their titles than the Scribes are… yet they wish to do the least work for it, fully assuming that past titles thrown at a sim owner is enough to show them you’re the one to be the boss on the sim. But oh dear if that sim owner tells them to prove their status, see how quick they run to within a day be Head of Caste in another city… where that Caste suddenly dies.. .withers… and the name slowly spreads around Gor as the one you don’t wish to be under… PCOG or not, it won’t save you. Even to the point other sims don’t want them either anymore. Like I said, very interesting bunch.

Overshadowing Groups

OK, noted so what else? Well… what actually made the Caste be how it is these days, where people are reluctant to join. And this I have heard from many is how the PCOG of Second Life killed all RP for it. An elite group of Physicians who decide who gets trained, and even where you go once you’ve trained. But such a training demands dedication… from who. Well… only the student it seems. To find a mentor who commits is hard, most will just claim the role Elder, jump up and down to be respected, but when a student tries to reach them they aren’t there. First there was a balance, then the leader of the PCOG became a bit too power hungry, and a Caste aimed to help all of the Greens in Gor, became notorious for killing sims, RP and the Caste as a whole. It was the proof that one overshadowing group to lead one Caste wouldn’t work. Why?

Well demands were made, and such, which you can’t do of a sim owner. They pay for the sim, making it they get to decide if your group is welcome in their sim or not. In the end very few actually were waiting for PCOG members, but to out loud voice this was the same as inviting death over your sim. Which we have seen happen with some of them who did this. Not to mention the outright abuse of the so called Admins in this group still makes me reeling.

The conclusion

Can it be saved? Well maybe. Now that the PCOG is pretty much dead one can hope it stays that way for long enough for the Caste to heal, and to allow the cities to take back control how THEY wish their Caste to be trained. After all isn’t this also the way with slave girls? It’s the versatile nature of this that makes it so much fun. I did it this way, I did it that way. If you travel you go to the North and find a whole new range of herbs to work with and ways. While in the south they may never take the same approach. I just feel a new chapter could start. If only people were open to learn, in their own cities again, instead of one huge organisation playing dictator.

So all in all, I get why the Gorean Physcians aren’t picked much, or hailed in with a big yay when they join the city. The PCOG and some of their members made damn sure of that. That said, those who I have encountered lately, are pretty good, and fun to RP with. We just now need to be careful history doesn’t repeat itself, with the Physcians, or with any other Caste. The charm of Gor is the pillar system, and each city their own laws… let’s keep it that way. And respect each other in this.
